DePaul professor Phil Meyer has taken his freshman class of 30 plus deeper into Chicago’s culture than his teens thought. They might know the great game of softball started in Chicago in 1887…but did they know that softball in Chicago is played bare handed and with a ball the size of a small cantaloupe.
Ron Kubicki president of the Chicago 16 Inch Softball Hall of Fame brought with him 4 additional inductees Frank Lentine, Mark Frighetto., Ron Ziemann and Floyd Glover to teach them about the history, neighborhood and economic impact. After the class work they went out outside, practiced and played a game. From all the smiles everyone had a good time. Check out the photos.
