THE RIGHT-ON’S

The Right-On’s were a respected team based out of Mt. Greenwood Park, competing from 1969 through 1988. The team was founded and led by Joe Whirity, whose steady leadership and passion for the game shaped the Right-On’s into a lasting and competitive presence in Chicago’s softball scene. Their journey began in 1969, when they captured the championship in the first-ever Friday Night League at Mt. Greenwood Park. They competed and won in several highly regarded leagues, including Donovan Park, Kelly Park, and the prestigious Winston Windy City League. They were successful in tournaments as well, winning multiple titles in the popular Mt. Greenwood 4th of July Tournament, as well as championships at Cornell Park, the Chicago Park District Championships at Soldier Field, and the La Crosse, Wisconsin Invitational while also playing in the Forest Park, Trumbull Park, Winston Windy City Tournament and major national tournaments. Over the years, more than 65 players wore the Right-On’s uniform. Together they built a legacy not only of athletic achievement, but also of camaraderie, sportsmanship, and deep community roots.
