ROY COTTERMAN

Roy started his career at 16 years old with John Aggens Alsterda Construction team in Oak Lawn. They won the title in his 1st year as starting left fielder. In 1970-72, they played in Mt Greenwood with several Major teams and players in Metros every year. But 1974 was a breakout year. In the 4th of July tourney at Kelly Park, they beat the Strikers before losing the title game. That Metro in 1974 saw them finishing 2nd after beating Strikers again before losing 3-1 in title game to Strikers, but they went on to win the National title that year. 1975-76-77 they played in Kelly Park Major League and the Windy City League Major in Bridgeview. Roy was an All Star left fielder both years. In 1978-79, Roy joined Amalgamonsters with coaches Mike McGovern and Danny Aco. He started every game in left field and batted 2nd. In 1978, they finished 3rd in ASA in Arizona, and in 1979 they won the Andy Frain tournament, with Roy as MVP for the tourney. His team finished 2nd in ASA national to Bobcats in Harvey. From 1981 to 85, Roy played with Sal Oliver’s Stompers at Blue Island. They won 1985 USSSA Nationals, although Roy could not play. In 1986, he joined Walt Konkels Renegades who finished 3rd, 4th, 5th and 8th in ASA Nationals from 1986-90. Roy was lucky to play 17 years behind 3 Hall of Fame pitchers Greg Schaaf, Ron Ziemann, Mike Tallo and played with 2 Hall of Fame Managers, Sal Oliver and Mike McGovern.
