50 years ago Phil Coronado the organizer of the first Harrison Park Tournament would not have guessed it would last 5 decades, the park would boast turf fields, and the park being the epicenter of the growth of the 16 inch game for Latino community. In the Pilsen neighborhood is Harrison Park consisting of all the traditional assets a park district has but they also have 5 softball diamonds including two on turf a rarity in the sport in Chicago. Today Manny Sanchez organizes their outstanding event. He also takes pride in an excellent fall ball league and a Thanksgiving Day program that players are divided up in color shirts and play for fun and donate food to the community.
