Dwain “Sonny” Spivey

Sonny’s softball career started in 1964 at the age of 14, with the Vandyke’s in Taylor Park. Sonny also played with the Ironmen, Senators, Safari Tigers, Flashes, Death Wish, The Express, the Untouchables and The Bandits. In 1980 Sonny’s team the Flashes took third in the ASA Nationals held in Marshalltown, Iowa. Sonny was named to the all-tournament team. Sonny has been MVP over 20 times, Sonny was also an All-star over 20 times. Sonny was a great Pitcher and notorious hitter. Sonny was known for his defense on the pitcher’s mound. A deceptive hitter Sonny could dump it and hit the long ball. Sonny had a career batting average well over 500, with many wins and losses. “Softball for Life” is Dwayne Spivey, aka Sonny Simms motto. Dwayne Spivey is honored to be selected for induction into the Chicago 16 Inch Softball Hall of Fame.
