The Scorpions Softball Club began play in1980 with 15 talented players in their early 20’s from Green Briar Park on Chicago’s far north side. While the roster did change somewhat over the years, new players were also typically neighborhood guys rather than ringers who could upset team chemistry. It was this decision that limited the lifespan of the team to eight seasons as family and career responsibilities took over. The Scorpions were the north side’s dominant team of the decade, and one of the top teams in the Chicagoland area. They won over 400 games and finished with a winning percentage of 72%, earning 22 championships including 12 leagues and 10 tournaments. They appeared in five world tournaments including two ASA and three USSSA events and finished in the top ten of the 1983 and the 1985 USSSA World Tournaments. They won the Midwest Tournaments of Champions in 1984. They also won the top north side leagues, Pottawatomie, Hamlin, and Portage Parks. At the end of their run, the same gents who started the team were still on the roster.
