Kurt Kiesel

Kurt was one of the premier shortstops in major softball through the 1980’s and 1990’s. His championships and honors are too many to note on this plaque. Kurt began his softball playing days with the Railbirds at Clarendon Park in 1978. In 1981 he was named the playoff tournament MVP in the prestigious Clarendon league. In 1984 Kurt along with his brother Eric and a couple of other Railbirds combined with the Jesters out of Park Ridge to form the J-Birds. The J-Birds soon became a northside power for the next several years. In1986 they won the USSSA National Championship after a 2nd place the year before where he again received All-Tourney and Defensive honors both years. In 1991 the J-Birds disbanded and he moved to the Miller Taggers. In 1991 they won the USSSA Nationals and Kurt was selected to the All-Tournament team. After two years it was on to the Bud 45’s until he retired in1999. In 1996 the 45’s won the first of their many Forest Park No-Glove Nationals and was awarded the MVP award.
