JIMMY “JUNIOR” MCCARTHY

Raised in Brookfield, IL, Jimmy “Junior” McCarthy began playing 16” softball at age 15 and quickly became one of the most feared leadoff hitters in the game from 1994–2002. Known for his ability to hit the ball anywhere, his cut ball, and his fearless base running, Junior was a nightmare for defenses and a spark for every lineup. A versatile player, he excelled in the outfield—tracking down fly balls and challenging runners with his arm. He led off for legendary teams such as the Rockers, Pugliese, Bucks, and Flash. His resume includes multiple No Glove National Titles, batting titles, and All-American honors, but his heart always belonged to the Forest Park No Glove Nationals. Junior never played for personal accolades. He played for championships—and for the teammates and community he loved. A fierce competitor, loyal teammate, and true friend to all. A dual-sport athlete at North Park University (football and baseball), Jimmy’s passion for softball only grew. His summers were spent on diamonds across Chicago, honoring the game and its traditions. Above all, Jimmy is a devoted husband to Megan and proud father to Caitlin, J.J., and Morgan. His greatest fan was his father, Jim McCarthy, who never missed a game and stood by his side until his passing in 2012. 16” softball is more than a game—it’s a Chicago tradition of family, friendship, and fierce competition. No one embodied that spirit more than Junior. Special thanks to Lane Nieman, Jeff Berger, Stan Patek, and Ralphie Lawrence—friends who brought out the best in him.
