Jim Schumacher

Jim was a player, manager, and organizer for 16-inch softball on the Southwest side for over 25 years. “Schus” was a pitcher and manager for the ACES from 1974-2000 loaded with St Rita players and future Hall of Famers. The ACES evolved into a powerhouse team in the 70’s and 80’s capturing championships in 11 local park leagues. Under Jim’s leadership the ACES expanded their competition winning the ASA Class A National title in 1987 with Mike Brady (HOF) named the tournament MVP and in 1989 winning another ASA Class “A” championship when Donny Miles hit a 3-run walkoff home run to win the title. The ACES were the first team to win two Class “A” ASA titles. In 1988 the ACES won the prestigious Kelly Park A league tand the Calumet City Metro championship in which Jim was named MVP. In later years the ACES traveled to tournaments in 4 states and in 1990 finished 2nd in the USSSA Major Championship. The Aces went on to win over 1250 games. Jim was a leader and organizer who would do all he could for the team, athletes, and for the community!
