The Buffalo Grove Bruins were the first northwest suburban powerhouse and enjoyed great success from 1969 thru 1974. The Bruins won two Illinois State Championships, 1973 and 1974. They were runner-up in 1971 and 1979. The Bruins won two Chicago ASA Metro titles in 1972 and 73. The Bruins played in 2 ASA National tournaments and finished 4th both times. 1973 was the Bruins best year with a record 81-7, which included two league titles and seven tournament championships. In 1972 and 73, the Bruins traveled to Santa Clara, CA and won the Mission Bell Classic both years against 16″ and 12″ teams. The best in the west. In 1975, Bob and son, Scott, formed the Jr. Bruins, a team comprised of Scott’s teammates that played varsity baseball at Buffalo Grove HS. The Jr. Bruins played in the eighteen and under ASA twelve-inch SP program. From 1975 to 1979, the Jr. Bruins were ASA State champs and were two-time ASA National champions. The Bruins 16″ team was back in 1979 and played a limited schedule. The Bruins played in one league each year and in tournaments. They played in three USSSA World Tournaments, in 1982 (third place), 83, and 84 (fourth place). Throughout the years, the Bruins 16″ team won 16 league titles and 21 tournament championships in seven states and played until 1986.
